the burning question…
WHO IS SHE?
Long story short, I am a 23 year old who is trying to navigate through the world, as it burns, with no parents, a large village and shrouded in grief.
I am deeply passionate about Black, brown and all oppressed peoples’ liberation and Environmental Justice.
I am pursuing a B.A in Comparative Women’s Studies and Environmental Science, on track to graduate in Spring 2026 if I’m able to attend the next two semesters.
I hope to work in End-Of-Life care as a death doula, death educator, green burials and so on…
I am currently a Black Girl Environmentalist fellow, a CDF Black Student Leadership Network Fellow, the Executive Director of Juneteenth Jubiliee & full time student. I have just returned from my internship in sunny San Diego ready to embark on this school year.
If you’d like to know more about me, read an in depth bio below…
I was born and bred in Harlem New York, by way of Sugar Hill. I am a trained actor, stage manager, activist & advocate, student, pro-Black, womanist, Spelmanite, environmental advocate, Pan-African enthusiast and so much more!
I began advocacy work at a young age, thanks to my mother. She was very vocal about our history and the long resilient story of our people. She & my father instilled pride and strength into me and by the age of 6 I was holding homemade signs campaigning for Obama.
My journey as an artist went hand in hand with my advocacy (as it often goes.) I began acting at 8 years old and was given the familial name of "drama queen" long before that.
I first attended Statement Arts in Washington Heights and went on to continue my training at Harlem School of the Arts. From the age of 12 I honed my creative skills. I was a scholarship recipient for over 5 years, practicing acting, stage managing, lighting design, screen writing, set design and so on.
I also had the incredible opportunity to be apart of Legacy Arts Ensemble where I was able to perform & learn using West African knowledge. It was in this space I learned about my culture and family across the sea. With this company I learned West African dances, songs, foods, cultures and rhythms.
I went on to attend Repertory Company High school for Theater Arts furthering my academic and artistic career. With a 3.5 GPA and over 5 AP classes under my belt, I made RCHS history by graduating a year early. In my last year there I again participated in the August Wilson monologue competition where I placed top ten in the country. On the side, I spent many years working with children in after school programs and summer camps.
At 18 I took my knowledge and advocacy to the streets. I spent my entire summer protesting, honoring and screaming for Black liberation. It was in this time I co-founded Juneteenth Jubiliee & held marches and vigils amassing hundreds of people to share collective space and pain.
August of 2020 marked the end of my traditional protesting and began my first virtual semester at Spelman College. I participated in classes for as long as i could till my mother's terminal cancer quickly took a turn for the worse.
I withdrew from the semester and spent my mother's last days tending to her in the best way any 18 year old could. I lost my mommy 12/12/2020 to a rigorous battle with cancer. The pain was and often still is incomprehensible, part of myself left forever as she exhaled for the last time. I had to pick up the pieces left of myself and find a way to live.
I went on to try many routes to find myself, whilst navigating any “life things” that came up. I ran for an election, visited Hawaii, threw a party, started videography, took care of my service dog until his passing, advocated for a family friend after being shot 20+ times by NYPD, modeled, and so on…
Ultimately, my journey led me back to my illustrious institution, for the first time, in 2022. I returned to school with a broken yet open heart, a nice chunk of change and hope to find myself in my education.
It was not an easy journey, losing my grandmother within my first year, having to build a new village, to be alone, but somehow, I found a way. I built a community of sisters, friends and mentors that will last this lifetime and possibly the next.
I found my home in the Comparative Women's Studies and Environmental Science departments, where I am 2 semesters away from graduating with a B.A in Comparative Women's Studies and a minor in Environmental Science.
Thank you for taking the time to read my bio so far, more to comeee…
